Longtime NBA reporter Zach Lowe not only thinks the Warriors will win Friday’s Game 6 matchup against the Houston Rockets, but he also can imagine exactly how it’s going to happen.
On his eponymous Ringer podcast, Lowe previewed the upcoming game with fellow Ringer staff writer Michael Pina. The two started with a brief dissection of the Game 5 Dubs loss, noting the Warriors’ poor effort and the Rockets’ defensive schemes, but they came to the same conclusion in spite of Wednesday’s blowout Houston win: Golden State takes Game 6.
Lowe, however, was so certain in his prediction that he went through a hyperspecific script of how the game will play out, noting that he’s “seen this movie dozens of times before, not just with the Warriors, but with a lot of teams.”
“I expect them to win Game 6, and I feel like I’ve already seen the game,” Lowe continued. “Warriors will be up by five, six, eight. Houston will make a run and cut it to two with like three minutes left. Steph [Curry] will make a shot, Jimmy [Butler] will make a shot, Warriors win by eight and they move on to the next round.”
Pina replied, “I do not gamble ever, but this feels like as sure of a bet as possible.”
It’s worth noting that there was no showmanship to this. There was no staring directly at the camera, no pointing to the audience and certainly no catch phrase saying he “GUA-RAN-TEES” this will happen, so he wasn’t making this call for any sort of viral attention. It was an educated riff based on years of experience covering the league, which is to say, there’s a pretty reasonable amount of seriousness in this prediction.
While it would certainly make for great television, it’s difficult to imagine this scenario being good for the collective blood pressure of the Warriors’ fandom. For the sake of a calm evening, they’ll certainly hope Lowe’s foresight is a little blurry.
